The New Pornographers “My Rights Versus Yours”
A worm runs away from home. A short note in the middle of the night, and across the field in the rain. Out of breath and hearts racing, worm reaches the city limits and turns back only for a second before heading out into the cold open air. Barely stopping to sleep, worm eventually meets others, a new gang of friends. Starts a new life, and for weeks doesn’t even think about back home. Until one day worm mistakes a worm for someone he knew back home. A beautiful young worm, reminded him of a worm, a special worm, who of course wouldn’t still be so young. But it all came flooding back. Now worm sees leaves and bark and earth and water, and thinks, “Yeah, worm would like this.” And at nights in the new life, worm finds himself thinking, too much, of a worm.

Beirut “The Concubine”
Well, you probably have heard this by now. I just wanted to let you know I’m really having a good time with the new Beirut record, to a point that I thought if I posted anything except a Beirut song I would be faking!
I’m not fully satisfied with the album after all, but its a hard thing to comment against. I just don’t like the fact that he’s separated the two sides of him. The epic sound and the elctro-epic sound come in different disks which is completely unnecessary. I mean you wouldn’t eat a cup of sause that came with your food after finishing your cheese burger! Seems like some people want us to eat that way anyway!
Wish you success with your exam brother.

Fireman “Light From Your Lighthouse”
It’s been 4 days w/ no posts, we both bz. So NP bro! I post again and go back.
Fireman is actually nobody but Sir Paul McCartney’s electronic ego! Together with an electronic producer called Youth, this is their 3rd collaboration since 1994. This is pretty much what Paul has done in 2008 in an eclectic album called Electric Arguments. The disk can be sliced into 2 different pieces, the first half is the more rock and conventional part of the story while the second half is mostly ambient and electronic. It’s not surprising to know that except for the electro effects, the rest is all played and sung by Paul himself.
This song is from the first half of the disk and has some country condiments and Paul’s voice is barely recognized in case you’re not a McCartney fan and know nothing about the whole thing. Too much for a 66-year-old who has accomplished almost everything he wanted to in his life.
I couldn’t find the lyrics, but I don’t think you’re gonna have a problem with that. Good luck in your exams.

Guided By Voices “Hardcore UFOs”
This one is a genuine lo-fi one.
Guided By Voices is one of the most prominent lo-fi rock bands around. This song is from their 1994’s Bee Thousand. A true lo-fi masterpiece. I think this first track reveals it all.
If you want some extra info on this album click here. The whole album is so fucking enjoyable.

Squirrel Nut Zippers “Hell”
They always remained a one hit wonder, this song reminds me of Sem, in case he learns english, God Forbid. Andrew Bird used to play in this band. NO NO don’t take a closer look, there is nothing in there buddy.

Franz Ferdinand “Twilight Omens”
Hey there P! Sorry for the delay. I have convinced myself that I’m an IELTS Reading dumbass! The readings are so difficult man! I lose focus (due to my good ol’ A.D.D) and I mess it all up. I’d better cling onto writing and speaking and I haven’t started practicing listening. Well, fuck it. I’m on a short recess.
Well Franz Ferdinand is back (very wisely if you ask me). Their new album is called Tonight: Franz Ferdinand. You just guessed it. The album is very night-friendly (in a rock manner of speaking though). This is what they should have done and I believe they made the right choice. Their first two efforts were nothing but success, resulted out of their vintage consciousness. Here on this album we’re dealing with Franz Ferdinand’s most studio-blaster effort so far.
I chose this short song called “Twilight Omens” that represents the album for itself. An instant grower. Tonight: Franz Ferdinand (which the album title is best suited for a live album not a studio one) will put you on the right track if you need your favorite allies invited over to have some cool time drinking and dancing. Stick around!

The Moldy Peaches “Lucky Number Nine”
Speaking of lo-fi music, I think they stand at the second place in my favorites after Daniel Johnston. I think you should hear the whole album called “The Moldy Peaches” if you haven’t. there are some really really lo-fi stuff in the album! Their lyrics are straight, simple, and too rude most of the time. This song particularly reminds me of unplugged versions of Nirvana songs back in the 90’s, remember? It’s a love-upon-first listen song, no wonder why it’s the first track in the album, I think if I was just a bit younger I could listen to this song all day long!
The Moldy Peaches are… well they have a big tag in their cloud called “anti-folk” which I’m not sure what its supposed to mean, and they are such an overpopulated band for some lo-fi project (I mean, dude, they are six people!!). But they sure are a well established band, having collaberations with many artists including The Strokes.

Elvis Costello & the Attractions “Living In Paradise”
I don’t know who has NOT been influenced by Elvis Costello in contemporary pop. This song is from his sophomore album This Year’s Model (1978).
It’s a feel-good song with ’70s qualities and Elvis is probably at his best. I think every American and English music listener has at least one favorite Elvis Costello song. This is unfortunately the only album I own from him. He’s not that much recognized in Iran. Costello has gone under many diverese directions and I don’t know whether he has an album better than This Year’s Model or not but this is definitely an important pop album in the 70s that critics put it beside Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours or Bee Gees Saturday Night Fever.
The song is a wise amalgam of pop and rock with slight electronic condiments. A pretty neat one if you ask me. And …WOW! Pitchfork has rated it 10! So let me paste you some useful info here:
“This Year’s Model was Elvis Costello’s second album and his first with The Attractions, released in 1978 (see 1978 in music). It was recorded mainly at Eden Studios in West London.
It was voted the best album of the year in The Village Voice Pazz & Jop critics poll . In 2000, Q magazine placed This Year’s Model at number 82 in its list of the 100 Greatest British Albums Ever. In 1987, Rolling Stone magazine ranked it number 11 on its list of the best albums of the period 1967-1987. In 2003, the album was ranked number 98 on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.. In his 1995 book, The Alternative Music Almanac, Alan Cross placed the album in the #7 spot on the list of ‘10 Classic Alternative Albums’.
Early issues of the album have an apparently misprinted sleeve, which cuts off the left side of the front cover (including the letters ‘E’ from ‘Elvis’ and ‘T’ from ‘This’) and shows a printers’ color bar along the right side (see cover right). This was a deliberate mistake (a favourite technique of cover designer Barney Bubbles), as was pressing “Special pressing No. 003. Ring 434 32 32. Ask for Moira for your prize” between the holding spirals on Side A.”
